Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any major awards ceremony approaches, one notices a clamor for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games globally continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier game development, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
